1000 Books Before School
Tinwald School is keen to support the Public Library campaign: 1000 Books Before School.
Snuggling up with your tamariki (children) and reading to them is a fabulous habit that will provide them with lifelong benefits. Reading to them increases their connection to you and their interest in the world around them.
This programme is proudly supported by Altrusa Ashburton and encourages regular reading to babies and toddlers in the years before they start school.
How does it work?
You and your child must be members of the library and you can start this fabulous and fun reading journey as soon as your child is born.
Pop into the library and register for 1000 Books Before School and you will receive a colourful booklet to track your progress.
Visit the library regularly to borrow more books and collect milestone rewards – we’ll have a special badge for your library bag every time you get to a milestone.
Once you’ve finished 1000 books, come back to the library to collect your certificate and a special photo.
You can register and find out more information from this link;

Canterbury Rugby Champions!!
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Simply The BEST!
Yesterday our Year 5 and 6 Rugby Team travelled to Christchurch to compete in the Canterbury Primary Sports Winter Tournament. They were representing Mid-Canterbury having won the local competition.
They team displayed teamwork, skills, passion for the game and sportsmanship towards their opposition players. Supported by a strong parent group, the team won every game during the day. The quarter final was tense and a very close game, however they held their nerve and went on to complete a clean sweep of the tournament. Dave Hormann their coach said, " I am so proud of how they played as a team, supported each other and their sportsmanship."
This is a historic event in the history of the school. In the past teams have made it to the Canterbury Tournament, however this is the first team to completely win their competition. The Canterbury Zone Tournament comprises of 215 Primary Schools divided into 18 zones. The zones cover the West Coast, Huruni, Canterbury, Selwyn and Mid-Canterbury districts.
Tinwald School wishes to recognise the teams' achievements, the coaching from Dave Hormann and the strong support from parents and teachers.
Richie McCaw said, "I don't believe in magic, I believe in hard work." This team demonstrated that hard work combined with team work is a champion combination.
Congratulations to; Thomas Sargent, Declan Leslie, Heath Hormann, Lucas Hopping, Liam Proctor, Hunter Colyer-Lusty, Charlie Holland, Riley Todd, Braxton Goodfellow, Jacob Todd, Ashton McKenzie, Jagger Williams and Dana Singh-Pau. Tinwald School is very proud to celebrate your success.
