Bright Colours Fundraiser
Back in Term 1 we had a fundraiser to help support Rare Diseases Day. I thought you may be interested in this article which was published in Women's Day earlier in the year. The article outlines some of the challenges faced and successes celebrated every single day by one of our very own school families. It is a great reminder of how diverse our community is and how by participating in these sorts of fundraisers, we are able to add our little bit of help for those who can benefit from our efforts. Thanks so much for participating and offering help where you can.
Year 6 Leavers Jerseys
Our Year 6 children have received their leavers jerseys and are very happy to be spending the rest of the colder months in these! The jerseys have all their names printed on the back of them and will be kept as long-lasting mementos of their time at Tinwald School. Thank you to the PTA for all the work you put into making this possible for our Year 6 tamariki.
National Young Leaders Day
12 lucky leaders within our school attended National Young Leaders Day in CHCH in Week 6. The event focuses on sparking leadership potential that's inside every young person. NYLD promotes inspiration, connection, student empowerment, promoting positivity, motivation and education around leadership. The children had a wonderful time listening to inspirational stories from leaders, coming home with a book full of notes and quotes to get them thinking about their potential. Their favourite speaker of the day was William Pike who shared plenty of messages, but what the children liked the most was: "Step outside of your comfort zone. That could be where you find the key to success." We would like to thank the Tinwald School PTA for funding and supporting the development of these skills for our leaders.
Jumping for June
What a fantastic effort in this fundraising event. So far you have raised $9,351.50 for the Heart Foundation.
Our school skipping event will be on Tuesday 25th of June (from 1pm until around 2.45pm). We will have an early lunch (11.45 to 12.40pm) then pack up our classes before meeting on the courts to shift into our organised groups (we will try to keep siblings in the same groups). Children can wear House Colours on the day and parents/caregivers/whanau are more than welcome to come along, encourage our tamariki and follow the groups around the eight skipping stations.
Coins for Kids Pyjama Mufti Day - 26th June
Everyone who chooses to wear their pyjamas on this day should bring a donation which will go towards helping to provide healthy lunches for children in our local community.
Celebration Assembly
Our last Celebration Assembly for the term will be on Thursday 27th June. The change of day is due to our school being closed on Friday to observe Matariki.
Rooms 6 and 1 will be presenting learning from their classrooms.
Student Absences
Thank you to all those families who are remembering to notify us of the reason for their child being away from school. We have had very high levels of absence this week due to sickness (flu-like symptoms and/or covid) and appreciate the parents who are informing us every day of the absence.
Winter Clothing and Uniform
I am sure you know and understand that wet weather brings its own unique challenges. Inside lunches and play day after day are not much fun for anyone. We do endeavour to get the chidlren out into the fresh air as much as possible on these days.
Wrapping up warm to brace the cold weather is neccesary to stave off illness so it is great to see so many children with appropriate layers of clothing including warm jackets.
Our uniform remains simple and affordable with the royal blue top and plain black bottoms (skort/shorts/trousers). Thank you to everyone adhering to this. Please make sure all items are named and keep labelled clothing for the weekend.
Last Day of Term Two - also RED NOSE DAY
Our last day for Term 2, 2024 is Friday 5th July.
Please be safe in whatever you do. Hopefully you are able to spend some quality time together as whanau, looking after each other, resting and recharging after a busy first term at school.
We return to school for Term 3 on Monday 22nd July.
