Term 2, Week 2
Welcome to Term 2
Welcome to the new term. Our children seem to have come back to school refreshed and ready for another term - some especially pleased to be back with friends after the break.
The cold weather is approaching with morning frosts and shorter days so we do encourage extra layers for warmth/comfort and jackets/umbrellas for rainy days. Even if your child is dropped off and picked up, we still move around the school during the day so these things protect us from getting soaked. If your child wears gumboots to school, please provide inside footwear (shoes or slippers) for the times s/he is in our learning spaces.
Attendance Records
The Ministry of Education are requiring more details around our attendance records.
Please make sure you notify the office (by phone message or email) if your child will not be at school for all or part of the day with the reason for this absence (eg dental appointment 1pm - picking up early; or sick with a vomiting bug). Without a reason, we cannot code the absence correctly and this will become a truancy lodged with our records.
It is also really important for us to have your most recent address and phone details. Please update the office with any changes for our records.
Office
You may have noticed that we have a new person helping us in the office while Mrs Harris is away. I am very pleased to report that Raewyn is recovering well from what was pretty major surgery - she is in good spirits and is helping us remotely from home where and when she can.
We are very lucky, therefore, to have Mrs Stacey Brown covering most of the office duties in the interim (and Mrs Jill George/Mrs Christine Osborne where required). Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.
New Painting Around the School
If you have had the chance to come into school, you will have noticed that over the holidays we had some amazing new markings/paintings completed around Tinwald School hard surfaces.
Thanks to our BOT for funding the paint markings and our BOT staff representative, Miss Nina Dew, for organising these to be done. The children were excited to see bright new play and learning ideas painted around the school, done by the company below.
Rippa Rugby Subway Cup
Yesterday we had three teams involved in the Rippa Rugby Subway Cup. Thanks to the teachers who organised this and to the parents who helped with support and transport.
The children represented our school well and we are proud of them for that. See below for photos of the teams and some children in action.
New Entrant Information Meeting
All parents of prospective new pupils to our school between July and December 2024 are invited to attend an information morning on the 20th June, 9.30am in our school hall.
If you know of anyone who is thinking of enrolling their tamariki with Tinwald School please get them to inform the office of their intention to attend this meeting.
Jumping for June
What a fantastic start to this fundraising event. So far your efforts have raised over $5000 for the Heart Foundation.
Our school skipping event will be on Tuesday 18th of June (from 1pm until around 2.45pm). We will have an early lunch (11.45 to 12.40pm) then pack up our classes before meeting on the courts to shift into our organised groups (we will try to keep siblings in the same groups). Children can wear House Colours on the day and parents/caregivers/whanau are more than welcome to come along, encourage our tamariki and follow the groups around the eight skipping stations.
Parent Teacher Association
Our PTA met on Monday night. Among other things discussed, just to let you know, there may be some further fundraising activity which parents can help with (eg. pizza lunches this term - next one in week 4, Calendar Art orders early next term, raffle ticket sales at some stage, Cookie Time - end of this term). There will be a range of fundraising options - choose the ones that suit your family best.
The Leaver's Jerseys are not too far off from having the decals added and then being distributed - hopefully before the colder weather sets in. Our PTA continue to support our tamariki in a number of ways - donating school hats to our New Entrant children (Terms 1 & 4); supporting the children going to Young Leaders Day; and providing resources in classrooms. The biggest project in recent times has been the planning and construction (in collaboration with the Board of Trustees) of our amazing new covered shared space with tiered seating. If you have not seen this yet it is well worth a look. It is such a great space for children to sit for eating/break times. On wet days it provides shelter and allows outside play, in summer for those without hats there is still an outside space for play. Hutt Syndicate Assemblies have also been held here.
If you would like to be part of this team of parents please chat to one of our staff or attend the next meeting to see what it is about.
