Term 1, Week 7, 2024
School Duathlon
Today your child has been given a notice outlining the organisation for our School Duathlon next week. Please make sure you find and read the information about this day so you are well informed about how the day will be run. We would love to see parents/caregivers/extended family on this day to support the efforts of our tamariki.
Early School Closure
Our union (NZEI) has called a meeting during school hours on Wednesday 27th March. Every union member has a right to attend this meeting but it will mean we cannot adequately staff the school. Therefore, Tinwald School will be closing at 1.30pm on this day. Please note this on your calendars.
Lollies/Confectionary and Easter
Just a wee reminder with Easter coming up that whilst it may seem to be a nice gesture to offer Easter Eggs/confectionary to the class for this time of the year it can become a source of implied pressure on other families to follow suit and so we do not support this practice at Tinwald School.
Making cards or notes with nice messages is a fine alternative. We appreciate your cooperation on this matter.
Easter Holidays 2024
Please be aware that all schools are closed for Easter Holidays on the following days:
Friday 29th March - Good Friday
Monday 1st April - Easter Monday
Tuesday 2nd April - Easter Tuesday (this day is often absorbed by the break between Terms 1 and 2)
School Uniform
It is great to see so many of our students wearing the Tinwald School uniform with pride. We appreciate students wearing the correct uniform and would be grateful for an explanation if incorrect items are being worn. We do have a selection of uniform items available from our Second Hand Uniform Cupboard, operated by the school PTA. Please ask at the office if you would like to purchase additional uniform items.
We are more than happy to receive any excess uniform from families. It is washed by our PTA and put up for sale or donated where needed. Uniform can be dropped off at the office.
Absences
If your child is going to be away from school due to illness, an appointment or for some other reason, please either email office@tinwald.school.nz, or leave a message on the school phone (03 308 4555) using our service for absences. It is important that we hear from you for each day your child is away. If a child is away for more than three days, we require a medical certificate so we can code the absence accordingly for the Ministry of Education. Continued absences are likely to be reported to the Absence Service for follow-up.
Little Heart Mufti Day
What a fantastic effort! We raised $389 for this organisation today. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Cultural Week Thank You to Helpers
We are so thankful for all the lovely helpers who made sure that our Cultural Week celebrations gave such a variety of learning opportunities for our ākonga/students. We extend our gratitude to all these people from our school community -we don't have photos of everyone, but you know who you are and we thank you!
School Gates
Just a friendly reminder that we need everyone to be vigilant about closing our school gates. We occasionally have children (especially in the junior area of the school) who want another cuddle from a parent and forget to stay inside the gates, or become distracted following a ball or such like, running outside our perimeter. It is important for their safety that we all help by closing the school gates each time we use them.
Subway Lunches
If you wish to order Subway for your child's lunch, you can do this through their website www.subwaylunches.co.nz You must log in and register on-line first and nominate our school for delivery. Only available Thursdays. Orders must be placed before 9am. Please remind your child to collect their lunch from the office on the day it is ordered.
Holiday Activities
Free interactive Workshop coming up in Rakaia
Up-to-Date Contact Information
It is essential that we have your most up-to-date contact information. Please make sure that we have your correct address and telephone numbers AS WELL AS at least one other person whom we can contact in an emergency situation - someone who would be able to make decisions on your behalf and/or collect your child if need be.
